Welcome to the party
My name is Nicole, I'm the nerdy fiber artist and community builder behind Common Thread. I'm hellbent on helping nerds embody their favorite heroes & tales in their everyday lives.
I achieve this by sharing my own creative journey on my podcast and blog, by hosting a Discord community for nerdy, welcoming makers, and occasionally, designing size inclusive fantasy, mythology, and art inspired knitting patterns.
Common Thread was born after I quit a toxic, soul destroying job. My self-confidence was shattered into a million little pieces. Knitting and designing helped me stitch myself back together. During the early months of this process, I returned to some of my old loves.
I stopped suppressing my inner nerdy kid. I let myself be emotional, creative, and inspired. I started asking, "Why exactly can't I be strong like Eowyn? What's stopping me from embodying Nike? Do I really have nothing to offer or say?"
Over the years, I published several patterns inspired by fantasy, mythology, art, and history so that we can embody these tales. However, in 2025 I was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which severely curbs the amount I'm able to knit. Yet again, I find myself in the process of winding my way back home.
That's where my new blog, The Quest Logs, comes in. We'll dive into the creative journey itself through a whole host of mediums and explore the idea of identity around creativity. Are we what we do? Or is it in "doing" that we become who we are? I hope that through these posts, others who are looking for a way to express themselves can recognize that they're not alone. You have a party member with you on this journey.
Most importantly (to me at least), I also host an engaged and active online community over on Discord. If anything I've said on this website resonates with you, consider joining us over there. You may have found your people.
Creating is powerful, and I fully believe you are the hero of your story. Common Thread is here to help you remember that.
