You Are The Hero of Your Story.

Why am I so sure of that?

Because I was the hero of mine.

I've shared in previous places that Common Thread was born out of my debilitating struggle with OCD and GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). But the more I think about it, the more I realize...that's not the whole story. Common Thread wasn't born out of the struggle. It was born out of my desire to fight back.

I needed a purpose, connection, and a reason to believe in myself. Since I couldn't find one readily available in my brain, I made one. And that reason became Common Thread.

I ignored the intrusive thoughts telling me I'm not good enough. I trusted the healing process (and my doctor). I looked to my knitting as an extra supplement and slowly began to stitch myself back together.

Basically, I saved myself through meditation, lots of therapy, rediscovering my love of all things nerdy, and creating Common Thread.

If I could become a heroine, then I'm positive you're one, too.

That's why, on this blog, you'll find a mix of a few different things...

We'll talk knitting of course, but there will be so much more...

Quest Updates

For me, designing is a quest. My design journey helped me see that I'm strong. I'm capable. It showed me that my brain, however broken it felt, could create beauty.

My patterns also helped me remember my favorite heroes and their epic tales. They helped me see that I am the hero of my own story.

As my design journey continues, I'll share all the tidbits and wisdom I pick up along the way here. Sometimes it will be knitting tips, construction and fit advice, or a yarn choice rabbit holes. But more often than not, it will be about all of the bumps in the road we can hit whenever we're working creatively.

Other Nerdy Tangents

Not a day goes by that I don't wonder: How different would my journey have been if past me had current me beside her? If I had known there were so many others with interests like mine?

It's why I'll share so openly here. It's also why I'll share about other things I'm nerding out over on the the internet. It may be a new-to-me knitting technique or rare breed of sheep. But it may also be the D&D campaign I'm running, something awesome a member of The Thread shared, or a book review.

We all contain multitudes, and I think we should celebrate that.

Join in the adventure with me.

Knitting is an adventure, and it can change our lives if we let it. Or at least, that's what I believe. If you agree or you're interested in whether not I'm right, then keep on eye on this blog. Or better yet - subscribe to the newsletter.
